About the Artist
Stephen Hopkins is a Portland, Maine-based artist and maker whose work sits at the intersection of function and form. Formally trained in architecture, Stephen spent years working in New York where he developed a deep appreciation for structure, material, and the relationship between design and space. That foundation never left him — it simply found a new medium.
Today, Stephen works primarily in hardwood, combining multiple materials to create pieces that are as visually compelling as they are purposeful. From intricately crafted chessboards to sculptural wall pieces and thoughtfully designed furniture, each work reflects a careful attention to detail, a respect for natural material, and a desire to bring lasting beauty into everyday life.
No two pieces are alike. If you are interested in bringing a custom work into your home or space, Stephen welcomes commission inquiries and would love to collaborate with you on something truly one of a kind.
